Hey all, wanted to write a post updating you on where we are with Zooomr and the Mark III Launch. This past weekend we are pleased to say that we successfully launched Zooomr Mark III. Since then we’ve had some bumps along the way, but are working our best to get the system as stable as we can. Of course 100% stability is where we strive to be and will hopefully be soon. When we’ve had a bit of trouble we’ve been able to get the site back online pretty quickly.

So we’re pretty happy with where we are today and we hope you are enjoying some of the new features in Zooomr. I think Zipline is my favorite feature and it’s great to see so many of you using it. You all rock.

Right now Kristopher is continuing to optimize our system. He’s down in San Diego today for his brother’s graduation but we’ve been in contact all day long and he’s working hard towards getting your Zooomr better, stronger and faster.

Once we have 100% stability we will release the API key for jUploadr and get that back online so that you can bulk upload again. Hopefully shortly after that we can get Zooomr working with PictureSync as well again too.

There are a couple of bugs that we are working on that you should be aware of. First off the Safari browser seems to have trouble uploading with the web form. We’re working on that, but if you are having trouble uploading and use Safari it would be great if you could try it with Firefox for the time being instead.

Also some users with capital letters in their user name have had some trouble seeing their photo. This doesn’t effect very many people and no new users, but if you can’t see your photos, please shoot me an email at tom(at)thomashawk.com or try pinging me at either thomashawk22 on Yahoo Messenger or thomashawkaim on AIM and I’ll fix that for you. A few people have commented that they did not get an email verification when they registered for the site. If this has happened to you, first check your spam email folder for our verification email. If you still don’t have one piing me again at the address above and I should be able to activate your account.

We will be getting faves, recent activity and sets back online very soon as well as camera EXIF data on old photos.

Kristopher is working hard and we are both very committed to creating the best Zooomr possible for all of you. We have really appreciated your support as we’ve gone through our growing pains and the friendship that you all have shared with us. You, our community, have stepped up to support us in some pretty amazing ways over the past 10 days or so and that is something that we will never forget.

Keep uploading those great photos, building those great groups, Zipping on that Zipline, and remember, the best photos in the world have yet to be taken. I’m continually blown away at the quality of photos you all upload to the site. We love you guys.

Tom

Ok I appreciate your work, and I like ZM3 very much. Really.
But, be realistic: there are more than “a couple” of bugs. And there are a lot of (old) missing features.

Among the bugs, Safari one is the last in the list, I guess. I use Safari and all works fine with upload, ergo it is a marginal bug.

BTW, good luck! And go on! Zooomr could be the state-of-art of photosharing communities.

Thanks jpghouse. I’ve removed his photo from the blog and will investigate it.

It would be cool if there were a list of features not currently working but planned, listed in order of priority, and then crossed off as they get done. Then I will know what I can start playing with, what not to bother with just yet, and what I can expect to see next. Crossed fingers…

Thanks Tom, thanks to you and Kris for your efforts, you are making something big, so I’ll keep trusting Zooomr for my online albums. Keep the good work.

Zooomr Mark III - Almacenamiento Ilimitado!

The worst bug IMHO is: photos marked as private showing up publically in previews, eg. in that zipline thing.

  17. jason said on 7 Jun 2007 at 5:24 pm:

I greatly appreciate the effort and look forward to the result. Sadly, I’m still unable to use it at all. I get “page not found” for nearly everything (including my photo page and the group help page), I can’t stay logged in, I have to login to myopenid before trying to login to zooomr, my photos don’t show up on my photos page even when I do get logged in, I get a plethora of “500 - internal server errors” when trying to sign in, people clicking on any previously posted photo get “page not found,” the photos don’t show my copyright notice (which means they incorrectly state they fall under the new default rights, which is wholly incorrect), and a great many pages simply won’t load–resulting in blank pages.

I wanted to share that since the troubleshooting is ongoing and you undoubtedly want to know what’s happening. Since I can’t post on the groups page, this seemed the next best forum.

Nevertheless, I’m a patient man and fully support zooomr. I’ll keep checking back and will move everything from flickr as soon I can.

  18. Gabe said on 7 Jun 2007 at 6:20 pm:

I’m having a lot of the same problems as Jason - I try logging in with openid but get the “500-internal server errors”. I try signing up for a new account just so I can see Mark III but once you type in a username that’s already been taken - it doesn’t adjust as you change the username to let you know if perhaps your second choice is available - the message remains “not available” no matter what you enter.

a cool feature you guys could add would be some kind of automatic submission to picli.com voting galleries - linked accounts of some sorts perhaps? is this possible? i dont know.. :-S

How about the RSS feeds for photos?

  21. Charlie said on 7 Jun 2007 at 11:55 pm:

There are so many bugs that it is almost impossible to use…Problems arise when I try to upload photos, when I try to set the privacy of the photos, when I try to manage smartsets…..The only thing I can do now is just to see my old photos…

  22. CJPhoto said on 8 Jun 2007 at 5:22 am:

YOu need to get privacy set up quickly or else there is no point in uploading. As it currently is, people can download a full size!!! version of any photo uploaded.

An get IPTC recognication up and runing for titles!

I am hanging in but still, Flickr seems like a far more stable option at this point. Please get ZOOOMR up to where it should be.

  23. Akiraman said on 8 Jun 2007 at 6:05 am:

Zooomr needs to fix its stability issues currently I have trouble logging in…

  24. Jamie said on 8 Jun 2007 at 6:40 am:

Same here. The stability is none existent. It seems that almost every time I go to the site I get a 500, or a blank screen.

Zooomr tiene muchos errores ahora mismo, no se si ha sido buena idea lanzarlo tan pronto, espero que pongan las pilas porque Zooomr es un gran servicio.

  27. jose87 said on 8 Jun 2007 at 9:19 am:

Ahora mismo no funcionan la mitad de las cosas, inténtalo más tarde, a lo mejor ya lo han arreglado.

  28. James said on 8 Jun 2007 at 9:43 am:

Please do something. The lack of privacy control will surely cause many troubles. In addition, I can delete other people’s tags!!!

  29. SavageSS said on 8 Jun 2007 at 3:54 pm:

    OK,
So I found out I can delete other users tas, not good. I also just uploaded a pic, but cannot add any tags \ Labels to the pictures..

  30. Justin King said on 9 Jun 2007 at 1:10 am:

Can you please fix my site I cannot get any of my photos.

  31. PT said on 9 Jun 2007 at 2:37 am:

“Keep uploading photos” seems a like an impossible request when jUploadr is not working so hopely you get that fixed ASAP. As a first impression Zooomr seems a bit confusing to use but maybe time will fix that.

  32. kormmandos said on 9 Jun 2007 at 5:38 am:

    Bug report:
I’m running FireFox 2.0 on MacOS X and these are the bug I’ve come across so far.

GeoTagging doesn’t seem to work. After I’ve selected my photos and submitted them, nothing is reflected on the map.

Label/Tags that I’ve input in the upload page for my photos are not reflected after upload.

The Marketplace page shows “This Page was Not Found”

The Recent Photos page shows “This Page was Not Found”

RSS feeds are not available. Will they be available later?

Why hasn’t anyone commented in the past two days about the site being down?

  34. taratata said on 9 Jun 2007 at 10:45 pm:

do you realize that your site is just a big bug?
I’ve been expecting a lot from zooomr. “Flickr on steroid” they said. yeah right. for a moment. the booozr is not quite on par. flickr learned. flickr improved. thanks. now zoomr is a wreck. Doesn’t matter how genius mister K is. if you can get vc money. just hire talent. not that difficult. don’t think that david can beat goliath in the long run.

how can you even ask to to vote for you now.

    sympathy?

I sincerely hope you can make the leap.

Similar issue with me… just can’t seem to open my profile page or photos page:

    “This page was not found”

I love the thought behind the whole thing though, ans sincerely hope that you guys can make it whip.

    Ditto that.

    “This Page was Not Found”

Man, Zooomr was so awesome, what happened? Now it’s virtually unusable. I really, REALLY hope it goes back to as slick and useful as it was because I really don’t relish the idea of migrating to Flickr.
