Looking for a Video-Based Zooomr?

College Humor's Jakob LodwickCollege Humor’s Jakob Lodwick Hosted on Zooomr

While we’re still undecided on if Zooomr should have video functionality, there are some pretty clever video sharing applications to try out there.

Lately, you may have seen me post videos from my newly created Vimeo account — and let it be known that I couldn’t be happier with the service. :)

Thomas Hawk and myself had the pleasure of meeting one of its creators (Jakob Lodwick, above) recently, which makes it even more special.

While sites like YouTube do a good job with video hosting and services, it’s always refreshing to see developing competition that goes well beyond the mark.

If you get a chance, check-out Vimeo and give it a whirl — not only is it promising, it also delivers.

Enjoy,

-Kristopher

Oh, and don’t forget the fact that Jakob is mad cool and he’ll actually answer an e-mail, comment on your videos, and even peruse the forums.

There’s a community aspect to Vimeo that others are seriously lacking. I’ve been a member for a long time and now, with the upload bump, I’m a very happy camper with no use for that other service ;-)

Vimeo is really interesting. I just joined this site as I read it here.
Good thing to do while looking forward to Mark III.
Perhaps vimeo and zooomr could integrate each other?
I think, both services fit together like a fist in ones eye.

Videos on Zooomr! That will be AMAZING!!!
    Please do it!!!!

Tanguillo: I’d rather prefer, if Videos at vimeo are ready to find via zooomr, but still exist at vimeo.

Tanguillo: On tangoscopio.com I see nice images, hostet on zooomr.com but without having them linked back to zooomr.com.
Dont you think, you should benefit zooomr.com for hosting your images in some way?
Thats a bad behaviour in my opinion.
    Sorry to say that, Thomas

Hi Kristopher, thanks for the info

OK, sorry if it’s the wrong place to ask, but i remember that ther’s no contact page yet on zoomr, and saw no forum. I wanted to know, how will thinks work after the beta period ? What will be the constraints on free accounts? What more would have paying accounts, and what order of magnitude will the price of it be ?

    Thanks in advance. :)

IMO, Zooomr should stick and specialize in Photographs and haphazard entering of the video market would result in disaster. But a partnership with new and upcoming services like Vimeo would be great.

  9. Konquest said on 23 Mar 2007 at 5:11 am:

I think that Chrono Cr@cker has nailed it on the head. Zooomr’s expertise is in photosharing. There are plenty (too many?) sites specialized in video sharing and competition is fierce. A partnership with such a site would be really nice, though…

Video should be included at around Mark 5, not before… :P

  10. Phil said on 23 Mar 2007 at 8:02 am:

I’d rather Zooomr stick with photos as well.

  11. Taavi said on 23 Mar 2007 at 9:02 am:

Yeah, Zooomr should remain a photo-only app. (Or to be more precise photo-centric. I don’t mind little thumbnail-sized videos introducing the photographer or video based descriptions to photos.)

  12. Chris Nelson said on 23 Mar 2007 at 1:11 pm:

Taavi’s idea opens up I think a better direction to persue — integration of the two sites’ data in meaningful ways. Still photos can enhance a video experience, and video can be used to provide context for photographs.

Consider means of integrating the two sites in a seamless manner (with due credits given with links, logos, badges, etc), and everyone can benefit.

Hmm. Video on Zooomr would be very interesting seeing as they’re entering the stock photography space.

I wonder how a stock video system would work with Zooomr’s mark III marketplace…

    Very interesting indeed.

    Guys, I need some help.
Is there a way to undelete some pics?
I’ve been deleting some pictures from my account, to correct some stuff in their EXIF and upload them back, but I just noticed that 6 from the 600+ are missing from my home backup.
    Thanks!

  15. Taavi said on 23 Mar 2007 at 11:51 pm:

(To clear things up, I first heard the idea from Kosei)

@Fernando - I’m sorry man, photos are deleted on the instant of clicking the “Yes” on the are-you-sure box.

Be sure to use search and look into the recycle bin etc.

perhaps images are still available in the google cache?

  17. Peter-Paul de Meijer said on 24 Mar 2007 at 1:34 am:

It would be cool to attach some kind of short video to a taken photo to give a better view of, by example, the conditions you were working in, or to show how you set-up your camera etc.

  18. Dada said on 24 Mar 2007 at 2:28 am:

Please become (i mean, continue to be) the best Photo sharing site in the world. Let others do the video. The notes option in Zooomr already enables linking other content via hyperlinks. Maybe the portal function could be used to link not only to photo´s on Zooomr, but also for example to videos on Vimeo.

I seriously recommend getting Mark III up, running and stable before you even think about adding new features or content, or this will begin to sound a bit like any old wanker’s fantasy dream.

A bit tired of waiting for the promised goods…

    Probably a bug…
When I try to drops down the Add Category menu in the smart sets build page, IE declares an error in the visualization of page.
So it is not possible to create a smart sets.
Why? Someone says it’s a bug in the release. True?
    Please, help me.
    Thanks

(and if you can read this, I actually can comment…)

  22. Thomas said on 24 Mar 2007 at 8:56 am:

Ok, it seems, I can comment further…
I just wanted to say, that I created a jabber conference room at zooomr@conference.zweilicht.org to chat with zooomr members about new features, new impressing pictures and so on;-)

Is there a problem with the sets right now? I cannot get some of mine to show up:

    http://beta.zooomr.com/smartsets/fuscescens/11956

There are several correctly labeled pics but they will not show up in this set. This has happened to me with several sets so far…

  25. Kristopher Tate said on 24 Mar 2007 at 11:01 am:

Andy, nothing is wrong with smart sets at the moment — sometimes it takes a little bit for them to process.

no one have problems with the smart sets buld page? Why does it function only with mozilla? It’s not possible to open the drop down menu with IE.
    What can i do, Kris??

  27. ada said on 24 Mar 2007 at 10:31 pm:

I hope Mark III will improve the support for Chinese, especially in Smartset, and the compatibility for IE user.

After 24 hours this set is still not working:

despite the correctly labeled images such as:

    hooray!
i don’t expect anyone else to remember but i have mentioned VIMEO to thomas and kristopher in emails and in blogger comments - i think there are lots of creative ways zooomr and vimeo can team up -
how about video comments on photos?
zooomr links to videos on vimeo?
    etc etc…

it’s a nice feeling when you see something happen between two much loved websites.

    vimeo is the bestest.
