Working on Mark III: No Sleep for Me

Working on Mark IIIWorking on Mark III Hosted on Zooomr

Hey friends, I’ve been working night-and-day on Mark III pulling my regular 15-19 hour days… Mark III is shaping up to be pretty awesome, so I’m pretty confident that you will enjoy it.

Lots of work has gone into making Zooomr more friendly, more intuitive and certainly more of a joy to experience the life and stories around photos from the people who so graciously share them.

I’ve poured an insane amount of love and attention into Mark III over the last 3-4 months, mostly from thanks and reflection to your 50k+ emails that I’ve received in feedback, not to mention the wonderful folks who keep in touch via IM. It’s been a tremendous undertaking for one person ( read: me :) ), but I hope that the fruits of my efforts are well received.

I realize that I haven’t been posting as frequently to the Zooomr Blog, but this is only due to long hours at the keys.

Heh, I just get giddy thinking about all of this cool stuff we’re holding back until the big day — back to work for me! :D

With continued love,

-Kristopher

Mark Herring profiles Kristopher Tate on SDN TV Hey friends, the awesome folks over at Sun’s Developer Net (SDN) were kind enough to invite me over to Sun to profile my journey in building Zooomr. The segment also covers some small bits about Mark III and is around 8 minutes long. It can be viewed at the following link:

Find out what Kristopher Tate, Founder of Zooomr, has to say about Starting and Building a Business.

Enjoy like your own.

Upcoming.org: Photowalking With The Scoble Show at California State Railroad Museum (Sunday, January 21, 2007) I added an upcoming.org event for our Photowalking shoot that Robert is filming for Scoble Show this coming Sunday at the California State Railroad Museum, the largest railroad museum in the world!

If you like to shoot trains or just like to shoot, come on out and join us at 1pm. There are a bunch of fun photographers who are going to be there and Robert has some 8 gig Seagate (they sponsor his show) cards to give out. Kristopher and I both are going to be there and would love to meet all of you.

Denial of Babes Attack [UPDATED]

The Babes of CES 2007The Babes of CES 2007 Hosted on Zooomr

Well folks, it seems like I’ve gone and inadvertently gotten our beloved Zooomr’s servers pounded (No pun intended ;) ). I posted a set of images up on the “Babes of CES” that’s making it’s way around the Internet on some of the more popular sites out there… Kristopher and I are sitting here at Massimo Cafe in San Francisco working on getting things optimized and back up to the smooth running Zooomr that we all love so much.

Sorry about any inconveniences.

Thomas

UPDATE (13:10 PT) by Kristopher:

Hey friends, we were a little slow because I’ve been converting most of our infrastructure over to Mark III — but I’ve re-enabled Zooomr2 on some of the boxes and we’ve regained lots of our speed back.

At the cost of looking slow for a few weeks, I think everyone will be pleased with Mark III.

With love,

-Kristopher

Hey everyone, we’re over in Las Vegas, Nevada at CES 2007! Thomas is currently processing photos like mad and I’m, well, blogging! :)

You can check-out our photos and others’ with the CES2007 tag on Zooomr. We’ll be here until Thursday and I’ll put up a video blog post sometime tonight to give everyone an update on Mark III!

If anyone is out here, be sure to comment and we’ll try to meet-up with you. A good place to meet in general is PodTech’s Bloghaus at the Bellagio.

More as it becomes available.

Rest in Peace, Mr. Ando

Momofuku Ando, file photo

Momofuku Ando often ate his company’s instant noodles

I was saddened to hear that on Friday the 5th, Mr. Momofuku Ando had passed-away at an inspiring age of 96. What did Mr. Ando do that was so special to me? Yes, you guessed it, he invented the Instant Cup of Noodles.

Why is his cup of hot noodles so special to me? Well, it has to do with how I got by for nearly 9 months before Michael Arrington blogged about Zooomr and even at a time where Zooomr was just a twinkle in my eyes… You see, I had just moved up to the Valley.

I didn’t have much money at that time — I was literally living off of bread and water, with a cup of noodles to tide me over through the night! It was tough moving into a location where I knew no one… a location that didn’t even have Internet access for the first four months!

When I started Zooomr, I would code into the night next to empty ramen bowls, the warmth of the noodles empowering every line of code that I breathed into my Powerbook.

Lately, largely due to the successes of Zooomr and my other works, I haven’t had much of Mr. Ando’s Noodles.

I’m sorry that I have failed you, Mr. Ando… But please understand that you helped me (and many other young minds) through a difficult time in life where many things are uncertain outside of “What am I going to eat tonight?”

You will be missed — さようなら、安藤百福さま。(Goodbye, Mr. Momofuku Ando)
