Zooomr Pop Up Icons on Ajaxian

popup icons Ajaxian has a nice article out on Zooomr’s pop up icons. Sometimes we forget that not everyone is as familiar with Zooomr as we are and thought this is a good time to remind everyone that if you hover over any thumbnail or small size photo on Zooomr that you can get additional information about that photo.

There are three possible pop up icons when you hover over a thumbnail or small photo.

The first icon is in the far left lower corner and every photo has an icon here. By clicking on this icon it will open the photo in lightbox for you. This is my favorite way to look at and really appreciate photos on Zooomr. Try it out.

The next two icons are geography based and are present when a geotag exists on a photo. The closest one to the lightbox icon will open the photo in lightmap if you click on it — giving you a better sense of where that photo was taken. The next one over (the furthest lower right) will show you nearby photos to this one.

Oh, and one other icon that pops up when you hover over a small image (not thumbnail) if you are logged into Zooomr is an empty little heart — and, well, if you see one of those, and you really like the photo, you know what to do — share the love, click on that little guy. Here’s some of the shots that I’ve been faving lately. Of course I pretty routinely dig through Raoul’s faves to find even more ;)

Thanks to our friends at Ajaxian for featuring our pop up icons on their site and if you like their article on us feel free to digg it here.

By the way, gooshum has some pretty fantastic photography. Check it out here.

Thanks Tom! There are some really fantastic photographs on Zooomr, and when I compare some of the photos the Zooomr users are making with what the professionals put out, I don’t see any difference. As a matter of fact, I think some are distinctly better.

Yesterday, browsing my account i saw that i had like 500 views on one of my photos, and probably not the best one, btw :) I checked the trackback and my photo was linked as an example of the portal feature in that article 8-O. Even funnier was that i posted a comment on Ajaxian and the author of the article pointed that i had just highlighted the trackback feature :D
    It was pretty cool..

Kudos to Gooshum for getting featured here! He’s been in my contacts for a while, and a lot of his photos are in my faves. Plus, he has a mustache and goatee, so you gotta give him credit for that too. I could be biased on that last bit though…

The popup icons are great, and the view in lightbox is awesome. I’d like to make a suggestion for the lightbox view, if a user is logged in, allow them to mark a photo as a favourite.
It does get a bit tiring to pick out a photo, view it large, click favourite, then click back and try and find the last photo you were looking at, which may have moved as new photos are being added.

Shawn, hopefully we will have this feature and more navigational functionality within light box in Mark III as well.

    Thanks!

    Thomas,
Perhaps this is a bettor forum to mention this: I tried viewing several photos from different users in the lightbox view, and it never loaded. The browser background went dark, and I got the “please wait” type dot/box thing, but nothing else ever happened. Happened from work and home..in different browsers (IE7 and Flock) Are there any know issues? I am excited to try the feature out, I LOVE that it is available from anywhere.

Ron, the same has happened to me before. I use Firefox.
