How Carina Uses Portals

Tuesday, January 30th, 2007
hello, my grasshopper friendhello, my grasshopper friend Hosted on Zooomr

Carina has a great way to use portals. She does a photo a day and then uses portals in the upper right and left hand corner to portal you through to the previous or next day’s image. Click through on the image above and hover over the top corners of the shot to see what I mean. Very cool Carina… and thanks for the great grasshopper shot.

I also love seeing that Carina is from Buenos Aires, Argentina. Seeing people all over the world share photos is amazing. Make sure that you fill in the city and country that you are from in your profile so that people can see where in the world you are when you comment on photos.

The Photography of Ben Dan Hawks

Ben Dan Hawks has a strong eye for composition. He’s also a master with Photoshop. Ben shoots everything old skool style, on film, then scans his work and does some pretty amazing things in Photoshop with it. He’s got lots of before and after shots. I thought the one above was insanely fantastic.

Check out his work here.

Zooomr Pop Up Icons on Ajaxian

Tuesday, January 30th, 2007

popup icons Ajaxian has a nice article out on Zooomr’s pop up icons. Sometimes we forget that not everyone is as familiar with Zooomr as we are and thought this is a good time to remind everyone that if you hover over any thumbnail or small size photo on Zooomr that you can get additional information about that photo.

There are three possible pop up icons when you hover over a thumbnail or small photo.

The first icon is in the far left lower corner and every photo has an icon here. By clicking on this icon it will open the photo in lightbox for you. This is my favorite way to look at and really appreciate photos on Zooomr. Try it out.

The next two icons are geography based and are present when a geotag exists on a photo. The closest one to the lightbox icon will open the photo in lightmap if you click on it — giving you a better sense of where that photo was taken. The next one over (the furthest lower right) will show you nearby photos to this one.

Oh, and one other icon that pops up when you hover over a small image (not thumbnail) if you are logged into Zooomr is an empty little heart — and, well, if you see one of those, and you really like the photo, you know what to do — share the love, click on that little guy. Here’s some of the shots that I’ve been faving lately. Of course I pretty routinely dig through Raoul’s faves to find even more ;)

Thanks to our friends at Ajaxian for featuring our pop up icons on their site and if you like their article on us feel free to digg it here.

By the way, gooshum has some pretty fantastic photography. Check it out here.

if you find me sad go awayYellowFeeling a little DevilishKristopher Tate, Self Portrait

I just made kind of a fun Zooomr smartset. I made a set of photos with either the tags “me” or “selfportrait” and got back the following set of images. There are some really fun self portraits in here.

Photos clockwise starting in upper left: ropeboy, Nanda, Kristopher and abeliever13… I just had to put that one of Kristopher in there ;)

What? More video interviews of Kristopher?

Thursday, January 25th, 2007

Friends! It seems like there’s a lot of retroactive videos from people who have interviewed me — this one is from the folks over at Travelistic taken during CES 2007. It also includes some footage of the Seagate Sponsored PodTech BlogHaus. Please watch it and enjoy.

Thanks to Jeremiah Owyang for reminding me about this video

Video Interview: Thomas and Kristopher on LunchMeet

Wednesday, January 24th, 2007

Hey friends! Thomas Hawk and I had the pleasure of sitting down with LunchMeet’s Eddie Codel and Irina Slutsky to talk about where Zooomr is today — and where we’ll be tomorrow with Zooomr Mark III.

You can check it out by hitting the ‘play’ button on the right, or by clicking on the following link bellow:

LunchMeet: International Photo Sharing with Zooomr

Thomas and I have also been locking-down some key relationships with some awesome companies in the Bay Area. Lots of exciting things going on as we move forward on Mark III.

With much love and respect,

-Kristopher

Thanks Yuvi!

Happy KidsHappy Kids Hosted on Zooomr

Earlier today I was reading Yuvi’s blog and got a pleasant surprise. Some of you may know Yuvi, others of you may not. Yuvi is an amazing self proclaimed, “15 year old wannabe geek from India.” He’s been doing some of the most detailed analysis on blog traffic that I’ve ever seen. Recently he’s been analyzing Robert Scoble’s blog and producing really great statistics. Super interesting new things that even Robert Scoble is learning about his blog.

And one of the most amazing parts of it all is that Yuvi is only 15 years old and doing this from India.

Well the surprise was today to see that Yuvi has decided to host his photos on Zooomr. Recently Yuvi put a post up in order to buy a Canon PowerShot S3 IS digital camera to take photos with and the world community of bloggers and readers was very supportive and donated enough money for Yuvi to get the camera. And so the world is now a more beautiful place because we all get to see it though Yuvi’s eyes and see one more part of this great big world that we all share. His photos, by the way, are superb. Check them out and be sure to leave some comments!

Thanks for choosing Zooomr Yuvi and I hope we can continue to live up to your expectations as we work hard to make Zooomr better and better.

Yuvi outlines some of the reasons why he is choosing Zooomr to host his photos below.

“And, I have decided to use Zooomr for hosting my pictures over Flickr. Why?

* The lone programmer there is just two years older than me! And, he was dablling in HTML when he was 5. Friggin cool.
* They give away free Pro accounts to bloggers. It’s good for a year, but I hope to be able to earn enough to buy my own Zooomr Pro account by then.
* The features rock! And, with just one person to convince, new features get in fast.

Oh, and all of them are licenced under a Creative Commons Attribution licence. Notice that it is Attribution only: You could do whatever the heck you want with it, but just gimme a link. Thank you!

Thanks to All Who Came Out For Photowalking 5

Thanks to all the Zooomr photographers who came out to Photowalking Episode 5 that Robert Scoble and I shot yesterday at the Train Museum in Sacramento. Kristopher and I had a great time hanging out and meeting all of you and appreciate your coming out and showing the Zooomr contingent. It was a bit chaotic with the filming and all but the train museum was an *excellent* place to shoot.

Martin McKeay had the best t-shirt at the event.

Thanks to Scoble and Podtech and also to Seagate who gave us about $1,200 in 8 gig micro drives to give out.

If you have Photowalking shots from yesterday, feel free to tag them photowalking or Photowalking5.

I think the next photowalking we are going to do will be down in Mavericks to shoot the surf. We’ll keep you posted and hope you can make it!

Sending Photos Via Your Cell Phone to Zooomr is Easy

Sunday, January 21st, 2007

Sending Photos to Your Zooomr Account Just a reminder that sending moblog photos from your cell phone to your Zooomr account is super easy. I took this shot of Kristopher sending one in action. If you go to “Your Settings” section on Zooomr, you will find an “upload via email address” option. Here you will be given an email address that you can set as an address in your email client on your phone. Any photos emailed to this address will be posted to your Zooomr account. You can also set specific universal tags for these uploaded photos or come back and tag them later.

Kristopher and I are headed out to Sacramento today to shoot a Photo Walking episode with Robert Scoble. If you happen to be in the Sacramento area or near the Bay Area come on out and join us at 1pm.
