Found Treasures
Thanks to elbaschid, moniamac and ranzino for finding the great treasures above.
Also a special shout out to the blog wisebread. Thanks for blogging about Zooomr!
Also, I wanted to take a minute to remind everybody of three easy things that you can do with your Zooomr account.
The first one is selecting an avatar. If you want a slick new avatar for your profile and when you post, simply look to the right of any photo detail page. Down on the lower right is an Extra Tools section where where you can turn any image that you are on into your avatar. If you don’t have an avatar yet and want one check it out.
The second thing is customizing your url. Since Zooomr assigns you a bland number/letter combo when you sign up you might want to reassign your url with your user name or some other handle. To do this, simply go to your “your account page” linked here. Once there you can change your url to anything you would like that has not been taken yet. This will make it easier for you to share and remember your url and to point people to your photostream.
The third thing you might want to do at Zooomr is enter in your city and country in which you live in on your profile page. You can access your edit profile page and enter this in here. When you have your city and country filled in your profile when you comment on other’s photos on Zooomr it tells people where you are from. I love that people from all over the world comment on my photos on Zooomr and it’s great getting to know where all of you are around the world.

You should all change the url. I’ve often had trouble finding people, because they still have their original url. Sometimes I don’t find them at all, the search function isn’t that great. Lacking the nickname search and advanced criteria search.

“When you have your city and country filled in your profile when you comment on other’s photos on Zooomr it tells people where you are from.”
It’d be even cooler if the geotagging map would default to our home city at mid to high-mid magnification. It’d make it a whole lot easier to start geotagging them, since most of the photos taken are usually in or near someone’s home town.

Raoul, indeed. And a good feature that hopefully we can implement. You can also bookmark favorite geotag default views. I’ve got default bookmarks set up for San Francisco, Oakland, etc.

To do this just look up any spot on the map by address and then in the bubble when you hover over the little arrow pointer it will give you a link to that location. I put SF and Oak links in my bookmarks launch bar on Firefox and then anytime I want to geotag photos there I can just select that link and start geotagging.
When I tag my photos Oakland or SF on upload I can then filter by those tags and get lots of geotagging down in that location.

Taavi, we are working on making people search easier on Zooomr. I agree with you. It should be easier to find people.

Tom, thanks for the cool hack with the map bookmarks. Gotta try that! I’ve also been typing in my home address as a starting point for my geotags, or the city and country name for my trip photos, but I’ve been wishing for that default behavior for some time. Cheers!

This is indeed a great trick. And thanks for the format of the tagmap url. Now, i’ll be able to substitute the coordinates for the location in which I want to geotag a photo.
Also, this is my first post in the blog, so hello to everybody

Is there any possibility or changing your URL? I realize that it is supposed to be permanent, but is that ever going to become an option?

paradox, maybe. But for now it’s just a one time change. We can always look at this after Mark III but that’s the priority for the moment.

Thomas, is there a chance we could import our Flickr stuff into Zooomr in any way sometime in the future?
