I ran a mission critical data center for over five years, I feel your pain. Dude, you can't do this alone, get some help, even if it's just some college interns whom you can train. This trip won't be your last to your colo facility I can promise you that. I do understand that redundancy is expensive.

That said I have some suggestions. First and foremost, be honest with your users, let them know whats really going go, eg-our cisco 7500 failed and our vendor can't replace it for 3 days. Hold your vendors feet to the flames, those guys will walk all over you're nice to them. Have contingincy plans in your purchase agrements. Reasure your users that their data is safe.

I would personally like to see a video of your rack space. How about showing off some of those bleeding edge boxen.

I think you've done a good job of keeping us in the loop, can't do that too much. I really appreciate your dedication and hard work. Like many I'm also very impressed with what you've built, so keep at it my friend.

One last tip, the system administrator's best friend; coffee.

You go Kris! Anyone who criticizes this downtime has unrealistic expectations. Zooomr is in Beta, which means things like this might happen. It's not live, and it doesn't have a small army of developers and network guys tending to it at every moment. It's been built by one guy, and maintained by one guy, and that's what's so amazingly cool about it. One guy was able to do all this, and it's fantastic!
