MORE New Features and Maintenance Tomorrow [UPDATED]

Saturday, September 23rd, 2006

Hey folks, I’m keeping the features and refinements coming! Around 3a PDT (10a UTC; See World Map) I’m going to be bringing Zooomr’s main pages down for several minutes while I update Zooomr for the changes I’m going to make and also fix some issues that stem lower than just the app code.

I’ll try to put some screenshots up of some of the new stuff soon. :)

On Thursday, Thomas and I were over at Six Apart checking-out their new project VOX — and it’s really kicking some major butt. Andrew Anker (VOX’s GM) certainly has a good feel for the road ahead, so I don’t think it’s wild to say that it’s certainly going to take 6A in a great direction — awesome!

More as it comes!

UPDATE: Here’s a shot of the new Friend-of-a-Friend system. Enjoy.

ZMail is Live

Zmail is LiveZmail is Live Hosted on Zooomr

Thanks for your patience over the course of the past two days. We are happy to announce that Zmail is now live. Check it out by clicking on the little envelope at the top of a page next to your name. You can now compose and send messages to your Zooomr friends.

While Zmail is not meant to be a replacement for your regular email, we think it will be a helpful tool for people to use to communicate with each other on Zooomr.

To compose a message to someone just start typing their name and you should see their avatar pop up. We hope you like seeing the avatars in the Zmail system.

A couple of the nice built in features with Zmail are the ability to send Zmails to multiple recipients, a little eye icon to tell you when someone has viewed your zmail and a nice rich text editor allowing you to bold, italicize, or include http hyperlinks into your messages to your friends.

So feel free to give someone a Zmail the next time you see yourself in one of their photos that they need to peopletag you with or if you want to tell them how cool their photography is or if you just want to make a new friend.

Please let us know what you think about Zmail and if their are other mail based features you would like to see on Zooomr.

Where in the World Are You Zoooming From?

BurnoutBurnout Hosted on Zooomr

Brad77 just put up some great shots of old cars including the one above. From the geotag it looks like this old car is down near San Diego. Interestingly enough, San Diego right now is the number one place in the world that traffic to Zooomr is coming from. Number two and three are Mexico City and Beijing respectively. Where in the world are you zoooming from?

Ciao Italia! (Hello, Italy!)

Sunday, September 17th, 2006

Hey Everyone, just wanted to let everyone know that I just updated our production site with some new goodies including an Italian Localization by Zooomr user Michele Costantino Soccio. Thanks Michele! :)

Some users outside of the US might notice some speed-ups due to some better delivery mechanisms that I just put into place, as well.

Enjoy,

Kristopher Tate

Wednesday, September 13th, 2006
Kevin Rose, DiggKevin Rose, Digg Hosted on Zooomr

Kristopher and I are hanging out today and tomorrow at the Future of Web Apps Conference here at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco. Kevin Rose just got done talking about Digg and there is lots and lots about social networks and how to make them better. Hopefully we can learn a bit to make Zooomr even better as well.

I’ve got a SmartSet of shots of the conference available up here. If you have any FWA shots feel free to tag them FWA or FWA2006 and drop a comment.
