The Future Looks Sweet

by Kristopher Tate | 1 September 2006 | Announcements, Development | 32 Comments

Hey everyone, Kristopher here. I reset monthly quotas this morning, so enjoy that.

Though, there are some bigger developments going on — in the next week or so, expect to see massive updates to tagmap along with many additions to Zooomr that will help you get the most out of Zooomr.

I’ll be droping some new screenshots sometime next week with follow-up info.

Lastly, if you’re having any problems with Zooomr, please email them to zfeedback@bbridgetech.com and one of Thomas, Michael, or myself will try to get to your emails. I’m also kris.tate@gmail.com on GTalk, so if you would like to drop a line, please feel free to do so.

Zooom on,

Kristopher Tate

It’ll be great to see updates to tagmap. I figured you guys would have a few things up your sleeve to keep ahead of flickr.

  2. Taavi said on 1 Sep 2006 at 11:21 am:

And I figured you’d be working on something massive..Really looking forward to the updates!

And thanks for sorting that email thing out.

    Good luck!

I’m quite interested to see the changes!

hmm, i’m still getting over how people are happy about geotagging on flickr, even though they copied it off of zooomr. Terrible really. Zooomr=ahead of the curve. Keep up the good work!

    Get some sleep Kris.

    Great work!

But what happened to “a good thing called Zooomr 2 + community”? Of the features you were going to launch on Monday? Or Tuesday?

  7. tim said on 1 Sep 2006 at 7:35 pm:

    J. Greenberg, I never saw anything about that. Did I miss something?

  8. Kristopher Tate said on 1 Sep 2006 at 11:45 pm:

Jill, I saw your photo of Colbert in Wired — good stuff!

Zooomr 2 + Community has turned into Z2 + Community + This awesome bit.

Much of what we’re doing here has to do with community and being social, so it’s important to get everything perfect.

I was wondering if it was possible to relax Zooomr’s 800px template width: I have plenty of screen real estate, and wouldn’t really mind being able to watch the photos in a larger size.

  10. Taavi said on 2 Sep 2006 at 1:32 am:

    Second on oblomov’s idea!

    Larger photos or more thumbnails.
Also, it’s quite hard to reach page 250, when a person has 500 pages of photos. There could be some on-the-road links, e.g. every 50 pages or so.

    My expectations:
    1) Faster upload options for Firefox.
    2) Elegant approach to share photos privately without explicit need for friends and families to have zooomr account.
    3) Slide shows or something much better. I do not know what is better. I can expect that from Zooomr who can offer concepts like portals and geotagging for the first time.

    Long live Zooomr :-)

I am a new user of zooomr. It is really great!! I hope you can develop your own uploader which will be surely very convenient to all users.

Moreover, would you mind if I ask a question here?
I hope to “Change Your Zooomr URL” very much. but no matter what what I type. After I pressed “save settings”, it gave no response.
Can you help me to solve this problem?

    Thx a lot !!
    Keep going on !!

And one more thing about the avatar creator: options to mirror the image (upside down and/or leftside right) and ‘negativize’ it.

    Hope for the weeks Zooomr

Over the next week the Zooomr team is going to be making some fairly major updates to progressively beta photo sharing site Zooomr.
    Personally I hope for:

    Stories.
    Better support for privacy settings.
The ability to edit those things that are locked f…

Help! Help! Help! Zooomr has gone crazy. If I login I get into Prady’s account. If Prady logs in he gets into my account. Prady and I are colleagues sitting in the same office. We have completely different password and url. Prady uses live journal and I use openid.

Hey everyone, juploadr is now available for your bulk uploading needs. I’m going to download, and try it now. I’ll report back later.

  17. bhadra said on 4 Sep 2006 at 11:09 am:

I understand that Zooomr Pro account is free for bloggers for one year only.
What happens after one year is over? Will it be like Flickr, i.e. limit those who don’t pay to seeing only the last 200 photos?
Let me know the hyperlink if this question has been answered before.

  18. tim said on 4 Sep 2006 at 12:12 pm:

Ok, here’s a brief report on juploadr. Works great, pulled in geotagging info. Only problem I have is IPTC data was not pulled into juploadr, and thus not zooomr.

Why does it take 11 days or more (still counting) to fix an issue with one user’s Zooomr-page (i.e. mine), when it only takes 1 day to fix it for another user?

    11 days:
    http://beta.zooomr.com/photos/oledoe

    1 day:
    http://beta.zooomr.com/photos/fajro/161813

…I think I’ll be switching to Flickr, soon.
    :-(

Did you use the magic word?

  22. Ole said on 5 Sep 2006 at 11:05 am:

    I did.

    1. Need to be able to change pics from ‘private’ to ‘public’ and back again. No info on how to do this that I can find?

    2. ‘Smart Sets’ limit out at 100 pics… need to be just a little bit larger?
Big event this weekend = 968 photos, edited down to 138 for posting. Still too many to fit in ’smartset’.

    3. Can you find a way to let me make my livejournal ‘friends’ list able to view a ‘friends only’ gallery on Zoomr?

    4. there is no number 4. Yet.

    How are photos marked ‘Adult’?
Can we report others’ photos as Adult?

  25. killercup said on 6 Sep 2006 at 6:35 am:

i use flock(.com) and it would be great to have zooomr-support. i think you should contact the flock-developers :)

what about lightbox 2? it has a slideshow mod and nice effects!

  26. killercup said on 6 Sep 2006 at 6:55 am:

    just some other ideas:
permalinks for photos, links to photos contain the name of the photo. e.g. beta.zooomr.com/photos/killercup/dach/

and better email upload: discription = mail body and wehn you add “tags: tag1, tag2, tag3″ at the end of the body these will be tags.

Exiting stuff ;-) I’d love an easier way to upload using FireFox - now I keep clicking ‘continue’ … ;-)

Keep up the good work & thanks for posting an e-mail address for support!

I have a couple of thoughts too:
    - RSS Feeds for smartsets (I’m thinking smartsets get updated as they match the criteria, right?)
    - RSS Feed of the latest smartsets/portals (as in your photos page, right side)
    - Couple of days ago I tried to build a new smartset with some intl characters (ñ,á,é,í,ó,ú) in the name/description and it just sat there doing nothing… guess that’s fixed now
    - There’s a “glitch” in the smartsets page (phots/yourname/sets) where the front pic of each set is being put in the one at the right, and the first one doesn’t have a front pic.
    - 100% agree with previous comments, we need either a wider layout (at least for a 3 column thumbnail row) or smaller thumbnails :-)

Thanks for keeping us posted and for zooomr :-)

I am a currently a flickr user, and there are two main tools that I don’t know if you guys have or are still in development of, and they are, to be able to “blog this” and an uploader that can send the photo to my account without me having to go on to the website and upload it all the time.

These are y I use flickr to post, because these two tools are really convenient for a sketchblog like I have.

I’d like to use zoomr for the simple fact that you guys are welcoming to artists and don’t exclude our work from your searches.

    thanks

@Don de Castro, take a look at juploadr. BTW, I like your work.
