Thursday, September 28th, 2006

Google’s Japan Maps Team just released a KILLER update to the map tiles for Japan in by adding new modes and higher-resolution imagery — Modes now include map, satellite and hybrid mode — it’s simply stunning!

Google Maps Development Team, Thank-you very much for your work. / Googleマップ開発チーム一同さまへ、ご協力に感謝致します。

Maps API

Translation:

Dear Google Maps API Developers,

We updated the map tiles for Japan today. The change includes the availability of hybrid mode map tiles. For example, take a look at the Nishi-Shinjuku area of Tokyo on Google Maps Japan.

To ensure that your site features the new tiles, please make sure to use the Maps API v2. We are also adding additional zoom levels 18 and 19 for Japan, and they will be available for Maps API users in a few weeks.

Here’s a tanka poem written by the team about the new map tiles:

Map tiles updated
They became more beautiful
Hybrid map tile mode
Buildings and maple leaves too
They can now clearly be seen

Daniel’s stuff is up on Zooomr as Smoothdude in addition to his own photoblog here. He does some great photography and if you are in the Brooklyn area and around you should check out his opening on Sunday.

Congrats on the show Smoothdude.

If you are on Zooomr and doing a show someplace keep us posted. We love seeing great photographers out there showing their stuff.

Thanks to Raoul for posting this fantastic photo of a Eyed Hawk-moth. It’s geotagged near Virgina if you want to try and find one of your own.

We hope you are also enjoying our new profile page. I know that I found a few people this weekend that I didn’t even know were on Zooomr through the “friends of friends” feature. Check out your own profile page this morning and you may find a few new friends yourself.

Kristopher and I had a great time at Scott Beale’s Laughing Squid Web Hosting Party last week as well. I think we got some of the best photos of the event. If you were there too and took photos be sure and tag them laughingsquidwebhostingparty. Oh and if you are in any of those photos please leave a comment on the photo so that we can people tag you.
