I’m being asked to switch my google based account to openid, but when I request a temp pass to be sent to my gmail, I never receive one.
Please help, as I want to check out 2.0

Same here with Google … I’ll wait all of the ten minutes for the TPass to expire and then try one more time.

I guess that your mail agent is a little overloaded right now though, with all the gmail accounts being migrated to openID :)

Like hardskinone above, the old account is still live, and none of my pics are in the new account. Is the merge supposed to happen straigh away?

  20. Allen said on 17 Jul 2006 at 11:34 pm:

Congrats on the launch! I don’t seem notice much of a difference aside from SmartSets, but hopefully your changelog will enlighten me.

Well it seems the owner property for SmartSets doesn’t seem to work on yourself, which makes personal sets difficult. I hope that’s a bug and not intended. There’s also not as much functionality with sets as I had hoped, such as the ability to sort sets and photos, select a default picture for the set, etc. Also I don’t see an option for sets within sets (at least I can’t figure it out), which I believe there was an uproar for.

I thought there were going to be groups and forums?

I guess I just expected too much, and the long downtime really built up the hype and expectations for me. Congrats on finally getting it up though!

  21. campino2k said on 17 Jul 2006 at 11:43 pm:

Alright, the Tpass worked, the openID merge, too.

Just one thing is worrying me: The Umlauts does not work. Inserting Umlauts in the description makes the text break.

There’s still no way of reading geotags in exif tags for automatic tagging? or is GPSPhotoLinker using the wrong exif tag name?

Excellent service, thank you very much: I logged in via gmail and merged with the test openID account I had create a long time ago. Merging was totally smooth. Congratulations.

However, I still can’t proitize my account because the URL to my blog post is still not recognized as having Zooomr photos.

    The URL in question is

Ok, first comment while browsing about my new Zooomr account: the overall feeling is rather smoother, but some functionality (like, changing the public/private/for friend’s only state of a photo) is missing, which is rather a PITN.

  28. Allen said on 18 Jul 2006 at 12:03 am:

@Duncan - Typekey? Zooomr uses OpenID. Unless I’m mistaken, I guess you’re at fault. ;)

    ahum… nm :p

  36. Spinfist said on 18 Jul 2006 at 12:35 am:

Ok, got a slight problem. I originally signed up for Zooomr with my gmail/google ID. After deciding I didn’t want to deal with the TPass situation, I created an openID account. Still not as clean as I’d like - I still think a Zooomr account is best - but at least my sessions weren’t timing out, and having to use a different pass all the time. So I had two different accounts, mostly using the openID one. So now with 2.0, I go to sign in, and see that I may merge my accounts. So I sign in with my google account and TPass, it asks for my openID identity, cool, I provide that… And now when I login with either account, all I see are the few photos I had as my google account. They don’t appear to have ‘merged’, but rather my old google account has ‘taken over’.

It gets more interesting: So I searched my old hometown for geotagged photos, because I was the only one that put some there. Marquette, MI, some breakwall photos on Lake Superior. Those said uploaded by “Spin” which is the name that USED to appear when I logged in through OpenID. Click that…and there’s all the pics I used to have as Spin on my openID account. But I can’t access them now. Is this making any sense? It’s confusing I know.

Reason I ask is because I got my openID account bumped up to Pro status as per your blogging deal. Now when I log into that Pro openID account, as I said, I only see my account as it appeared when logging in with my old google account.

Confusing! I know! But feel free to drop an email and I’d be happy to provide you my usernames for lookup. Looks like a bug to me. What do you think?

I’m in no hurry, so, no worries. I just wanted to let you know.

(Glancing up through posts, I see a few others have encountered similar. Hope my abundance of info helps you out here.)

Since we’re bug storming: apostrophes in comments aren’t well accepted. I’m trying to write:

Mi sa che la stanchezza non c’entra con l’effetto mal di mare, ho proprio le mani di pastafrolla.

as a comment to one of my pics, and it comes out as

Mi sa che la stanchezza non c&#39

as if the ‘ doesn’t get properly encoded. However, clicking on the comment still brings up the original one so it’s there, but doesn’t display properly.

I like the old way the code for pasting into blogs used to show up in a box under the picutre on pages for specific sizes of pictures.

One thing that would make it even better is to add “display: block;” to the code. Without that, the Zooomr pictures on my wordpress blog look bad for IE users. Here’s an example of what I mean:

good work! I love it. Especially the concept of SmartSets. But I looks like the combination of filter-criteria is not really working: I tryed ‘Owner: match all of: fienna’ AND ‘Views: is greater than: 10′ … I get ‘0 photos’ :-( anyway. I love it!

  51. lucapap said on 18 Jul 2006 at 1:35 am:

The only thing I expected from 2.0 is still missing (or maybe it’s there and I can’t see it ?!). I’m talking about the ability to automatic post on your blog sending an email to Zooomr (Flickr does it). It’ so fun to send pic taken from your mobile directly to your blog.

schwerd, I’m glad that you’ve gotten the hang of things…

The newer stuff is more clean-slate than anything else. Right now, prior to 2.0, we only had 10k users.

The new login system is designed to be more easy to use for completely new users to Zooomr.

I’m always open to looking at new ways, and login has always been an issue with Zooomr from the start — Hopefully 2.0 will be helpful for people just starting their 2.0 experience.

While it doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of Flickr (my kingdom for an uploading utility!), it offers one thing Flickr doesn’t, but completely kicks ass: Geotagging. And when they went live with v2.0 last night, they made the already great geotagging setup even better. I also love their Smartsets, which pretty much stick anything I upload with a certain tag into its own set. The only thing I’m hoping for is that some enterprising Wordpress codegeek implements some sort of photoalbum plugin for Zoomr, like the Falbum setup I’m running on my site right now that pulls in my Flickr photostream. and the worst in my view: i tried to upload a 900kb pic for four times. no pic in my gallery. then tried to upload a 24kb only pic. no pic in my gallery. thats kind of exhausting? any fixes for that?

after defining what photo i want to upload there comes the new site with “Please wait. Photos are uploaded” (or however it is called in the english version).
then it seems the photo has uploadd (page load is finished) but the site doesn’t change and no pic in my gallery.
tried to upload with safari and firefox, both with the same ‘result’

The other data is still there and can be accessed in a roundabout way. I’m sure this glitch will be corrected and I certainly hope the pushed away data will not be lost for good!!! Since i couldn’t find a better place for my bugreport, i thought i might as well put it here.

There seems to be a small issue with the geotagging module, if you click fast enough on the a picture in step 2 (Select photos you would like to GeoTag) you add multiple versions of the image to the other box (i found that out by accidently double clicking a photo). Maybe this is only cosmetic (i didn’t finish the tagging), but i just wanted to let you know.

Easy way to ungeotag a photo:
    Within the TagMap:
Click the photo you want to remove. In the details tab there are the four little icons on the bottom right of the popup. The very right one is a circle with a line through it.
Click that and the photo will automatically be UNgeotagged (note there is no confirmation on this, make sure you want to do it!!!)

From there you can re-geotag in the usual way.

    hope this helps!

I joined the site this morning. I wonder why my 3 megapixel images only show up as 1024×768 when I click on “All sizes.” The whole point of using this service was to store high resolution images and allow others to see them. I have some high definition 16×9 photos and they’ve been restricted to 1024×576, so my tags are now misleading and can frustrate users.

I was really careful in editing my images and saving them with minimal compression, and now they’re unavailable on the web even to me. I wouldn’t call this data destruction “Flickr on steroids.”

  132. kad said on 19 Jul 2006 at 9:16 am:

    I _knew_ I should’ve kept using my openid account… Here’s the problem:
    - In the beginning, I signed up to Zooomr with openid, I created an openid URL and even uploaded a couple of pics to zooomr.
    - Then I thought that this was too complicated, and because I saw the “IM to your Google Talk (soon)” in the process to sign up using google, I thought this was a pretty cool idea, so I signed up again using Google this time, didn’t worry for the couple of pics in my old open id account.
    - I kept using my google account and upload several pictures. Even asked for PRO status.
    - Enter Zooomr2, and the merge process: I merged it and thought I was fortunate because I experienced no problems… even uploaded an image yesterday with the rest of my pics and created a couple of smartsets, all was fine and dandy
    - I try to log in today, and indeed I login (using my open id account, thought they are already merged) but now I have only my old-old 2 pics. The bunch of my pics are still there, under my other account, can’t modify them, or anything.
    Any thoughts?

  133. kad said on 19 Jul 2006 at 9:31 am:

Ok, so I did a kinda strange thing… I tried again the merge:
    - Send my TPass
    - In the “Now you can either sign in using an existing open id or create a new one” you can just ignore that and go to http://beta/zooomr.com/account, you are already signed in with your google account credentials

What is happening here is that the login is being called twice, not updating itself. You log in with google, then comes myopenid and replaces the previous session. Stranger than that, this (as I stated above) didn’t happen to me yesterday.
Maybe separating the process can help a bit, for one side let the users create a myopenid account, and then in the account section let them link with the previously created account.
    My 2 cents anyway.

HERE SHOULD BE A TEMPORARY FIX TO ACCESS YOUR OLD GOOGLE LOGIN PHOTOS:
Actually workaround is probably a better term, definitely not a fix.
OK, even if you have merged your openID and google accounts, go back to the old method of requesting a tempPass.
Login with that tempPass, which will next bring up the dialog to merge the accounts. INSTEAD, just click on the WelcomeMat or wherever else you wish to go on Zooomr and you should be logged in with access to your OLD google account photos!
If I’m totally wrong please let me know but I think this should work.
I’m sure this issue will be fixed soon so please don’t let this dissuade you from using this great service.

    A Fan

    ataraxis,
To my knowledge, the option to change public/private status after the picture is uploaded has not been implemented yet. However, this obviously makes no sense. It would be no problem at all to add a couple radio buttons and checkboxes for friends/family in the edit photo page or elsewhere. I’m sure this will be corrected very soon (right Kris?) ;)
In the meantime, if you really don’t want others viewing your pictures, then make them private. But wouldn’t that defeat the purpose of this community? :)

    2. I believe the first picture in the Album is set as the cover photo. However, there are obviously issues with SmartSets as of now. (See ping’s post above for more info) Once those are worked out I would hope we could set our own cover photo as well!

  145. Dana said on 19 Jul 2006 at 12:26 pm:

To delete geotags: Open up the TagMap, click on the particular photo, then clicking on the little circle with a line through it in the very bottom right details tab (next to the magnifying glass). It’s the same icon to delete the photo in the normal photos page. After that, you can add a new geotag to the photo if you so desire! I believe that’s the only way to change the geotag also. No easy drag and drop editing on the TagMap (hint hint) ;)
