Like a Dog That’s Just Been Beaten

Well that’s how it feels when you work really hard for something for weeks just to have some bully kick sand in your face in the end. Yeah, we most likely will not be launching tonight and that sucks. I guess it goes with the territory when you’re a small start up. All of your photos are safe and your blogged photos will still work. We just need to stop this attack before we will be able to go back online.

Sorry to all of you and we’ll still be down here at 365 Brannan St. tonight talking about Zooomr. Come on down and enjoy a beer with us. We will be back and a lot stronger when we can and in the end as a wise man once said, “that which doesn’t kill me makes me stronger.”

Good things come those that wait. Granted I didn’t even know about Zooomr until a few days ago, I’m still excited about the launch and will be checking back in the AM. Good luck all! :)

Can’t wait to check out Zooomr for the first time! Good luck — think about Prolexic for the ddos stuff

Stay strong. Things will come together.

  4. schwerd Says:

some people just don’t deserve the priveleges that they have…..an unwarranted and unnecessary attack on us zooomr-ites….

we hates them, Precious. Oh yes, we really do.

  5. Cody Mays Says:

Mind my ignorance, but don’t you have an httpd with the code running on your laptop?

On a second note, if they are hitting just beta.zooomr.com remove the dns entry and create a new one so you can present it. At least the zombies won’t get a resolved ip.

  6. Tim McCormack Says:

How does a DDoS attack affect internal development and testing?

  7. Martin Green Says:

hang in there - your fans will all still be there on the other side.

best of luck for a successful launch.

  14. josue salazar Says:

btw i hope this new version lives up the hype you guys created, like on techcrunch you guys said it would blow our minds out… i doubt it but if it has better stuff than flickr i’ll be happy. i guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

  15. jazzle Says:

Why do you have the timer stuck on 11′09”?

  16. Nehring Nowhere » Blog Archive » Zooomr…later rather than soonr Says:

[…] Well is appears that Zooomr has encountered some bumps in the road in travelling to their 2.0 upgrade. It sucks that it appears that most of their problems (at least as they report them) appear to be DoS attacks. If it is truly Dos related, who initiated the attacks? I find it hard to believe that a competitor in the photo sharing market would be directly responsible. What I wouldn’t find hard to believe is that is could be a cooridinated effort for the users of a competitor’s photo sharing service. It’s all speculation, but the internet is mostly about guessing and gossip these days (or so it appears) so that’s just my guess. […]

  20. Rubin110 Says:

Man, some people are jerks, not just talking about the DoS here.

Sorry I missed the party, by the time I got out of work I was running late for Fire Arts, so I had to skip out on Zooomr 2.0.

I wish the best of stuffs to all off you, and if you have some free time totally drop by West Oakland, as fire fixes everything!

  21. Daren Lewis Says:

Don’t let the botnet turkeys get you down! We’ll be waiting to see all the cool stuff whenever you get past this DoS mess.

  22. Daisy Says:

One day soon you’ll look back on this and laugh (no, really, you will!)

  26. Spinfist Says:

Ha! Yeah it’s been reporting some weird times ever since it reached the end. It’s all good though. It’s gonna rule when the attack lets up.

  27. evsion Says:

  29. Spinfist Says:

Considering Kris and a select few are pretty much doing the whole thing…man. I can’t begin to imagine the stress and pressure they’re under. I’m curious too, but perfectly content waiting patiently for the release. It’ll come.

  30. R. Ramjet Says:

Would have loved to have that beer, but the trip would have cost too much time. Maybe next time I visit the US.

I hope you succeed in stopping the attack soon, and when you do please blog a picture of you all with a smile on your faces. You are looking way too serious in the pictures you have posted so far. ;-)

    Good luck!!!

    BTW:
I don’t mind waiting a few days or more.

  31. franky Says:

Obviously someone has very powerfull anservers and lots of ‘em.
A 36 hour DOS already? Erm, even FBI, Nasa or MS have never been subject of this.

Little by little the Zooomr hype is already fading for me.

  32. Dan100 Says:

    How are things looking?

    This must be incredibly frustrating.

  33. ren Says:

    hi zoomer guys,

I’m curious… why is there a so big delay without any new news? :-\ :(

  36. skez Says:

I talked to Kris a bit last night and he told me they’re busy beefing up the servers. I’m sure this is a lot more frustrating for them than it is for us :(

  37. Chris Lanier Says:

Hang in there guys, I know how hard (D)DoS can be to get around.

    Chris

  38. George Says:

Will this be back by the Aug?

  39. Mario Says:

C’mon team Zooomr! We believe in you :)

  40. josue salazar Says:

(D)DoS? Is it also stopping them from posting something about the launch?

This is frustrating. It’s july 16th, zooomr has been down for what now, 3-4 days? and the last post you guys made was two days ago? Where are you guys?

  41. Thomas Hawk Says:

We don’t want to disappoint and although we think we have the DOS attack behind us at this point, we need to beef a few things up so that it won’t happen again. Hang in there. As soon as we have what we feel is a reliable ETA we will share it with you.

Thanks all for your patience and understanding.

  42. ABeliever13 Says:

The guys aren’t over the free beer yet! Just kidding- can’t wait for the launch! Best of luck you guys!

  43. Paul Britt Garcia Says:

    1. Anyone who attacks like this must be really SCARED of you.

  47. DDoS Attacks from Nowhere · Security to the Core | Arbor Networks Security Blog Says:

[…] Over the weekend Ed Vielmetti pointed out to me that Zooomr had been under a DDoS attack as they were preparing to roll out their 2.0 site. As discussed on their blog, the Zooomr guys describe what’s going on (well, in very limited detail): Well that’s how it feels when you work really hard for something for weeks just to have some bully kick sand in your face in the end. Yeah, we most likely will not be launching tonight and that sucks. I guess it goes with the territory when you’re a small start up.
