Building Zooomr Groups

Building Zooomr GroupsBuilding Zooomr GroupsHosted on Zooomr

Michael, Kris and I had a great afternoon today deciding what Zooomr Groups should look like. We spent most of it hanging out at Om Malik’s office away from the office, the Starbucks on Clay and Battery — what better place to develop software? (Thanks Club Quarters for the free wi-fi!)

We launch V2.0 on Friday and getting Groups into it has been a major goal of ours. We want to have a super cool groups/forums section and are building in all of the great community social networking tools to make your groups experience on Zooomr the best that it possibly can be. Which brings up a point. What kind of features would you like to see in Zooomr groups? Are there any admin tools or user functionality that you think we should be sure to include? Even if we can’t get it in this build we would love to know what you think are the best features to be built around group functionality.

Because as soon as we launch V2.0 this Friday we are going right back to the drawing board to create even more and better features to delight you our users for our next version. Once we have groups working on Friday we will integrate a Zooomr ideas forum also where we hopefully will receive feeback from you on how we can make the site better and better and better.

And thank you to all you bloggers who have taken us up on our free Pro account for bloggers offer so far. We were totally blown away and overwhelmed at the response. 409 comments on our original “Free Pro Accounts for Bloggers” post. Whew. Thank you, thank you, thank you! And our offer still stands so be sure to keep telling your friends about Zooomr.

    Hi Zooomr-Team,

I’m one of these bloggers and just wanted to ask how I can determine that I have a pro account?

    Keep up the good work,
    Patrick

    Hey Guys,
Great job, sounds like you guys are putting in some hours with the 2.0 launch and further ideas! All I can say is awesome!
A question though, How do I know if I’m “pro” or not? My account doesn’t seem to say that it is.

    beta.zooomr.com/photos/dcypl

Would love to get in on the pro thing.

    Cheers!

  3. Allen Says:

dcypl: You should see a little image that says “Pro” by your name on your page if you are a pro user. Looking at the other post, it seems like your blog link was broken. Maybe they couldn’t get to your blog.

I’m also waiting for my account upgrade. Comment number 1897. :)

  4. Otavio Pliger Says:

Dont know why but cant comment on the Free Pro Account Blog Page… can I try here?

Please, upgrade me to pro and I will trash my flickr!

    Thanks!

  5. Thomas Hawk Says:

hmmmm.. I hope we didn’t break the Free Pro account link with so many comments.

We will get all of you upgraded to Pro. We just have to do it manually right now so bear with us. You should know that you are Pro when a little Pro icon appears next to your name.

If for whatever reason we missed you please repost your link here and we’ll get you set up.

    Tom

  6. Amos Griffin Says:

First of all thank you for the Pro Account. I might not be so excited about it but Zooomr is so fun to use. Consider me a convert and loyal Zooomrite from this point forward.

As for groups I’d like to offer something specific but I just don’t know enough to know what’s possible and what’s not.

With that said, it would be nice to be able to communicate with group members in ways other than forums and comments. For example, knowing when a group member (or anyone if they choose) is using Zooomr and being able to drop them an instant message would be very handy. Socialize the pictures even more. Could be a pipe dream but that’s a suggestion from the guy that doesn’t know any better.

  7. djp72 Says:

THANKYOU FOR THE FREE PRO ACCOUNT!
looking forward to seeing what this zooomr thing will be like…

    djp72’s top SUGGESTIONS:

1} SUBSETS - sets within sets within sets within sets.
2} VIDEO- team up with someone
    like the brilliant www.vimeo.com
and cross pollinate video/photo connections… the Zooomrtations idea on speed.
3} UPLOAD TOOLS FOR MAC / iPHOTO
4} fix the stupid sign in system. it sucks.
5} Zooomrtations- make it so you can record straight into the browser.
6} get that API stuff worked out so i can get my photos out of flickr etc…
7} GROUPS / COMMENTS - can you have a setting - a box to check with every post / comment so that i can subscribe to that topic / comment- like if i ask a question in a group, or in a comment to someones picture - i can tick a box that would shoot an email to me when someone replies to it…
8} make and official area where i can post all my ideas about making zooomr better.
    because i have a LOT!!

  8. djp72 Says:

oh! i forgot my NUMBER ONE THING TO FIX/CHANGE/MAKE FOR ZOOOMR:

    THE NAME!!!!!
ZOOOMR is crap name on so many levels.
    it is totally biting flickr
it has 3 O’s in it
    it is nothing about zooming.

    please change the name.

  9. Rose-Anne Says:

Well, I think groups should be as ’social’ as possible. I like them to have a forum, to really discuss the photo’s uploaded in the group. It would be great if you could see on one’s account what groups he/she is joining… and a clear page where you can find which groups already are available…

But, I think these things allready have been in your minds, so I have no further ideas now. Maybe when it’s running we can see what’s missing or should be improved.

Keep up the good work guys!

  10. Oblomov Says:

Sorry for the OT but comments are closed on the blog post about the proitizer. It seems that the script doesn’t recognize the post at http://www.ilcannocchiale.it/blogs/style/autumn/dettaglio.asp?id_blog=3221&id_blogdoc=1084413 which is probably due to my blog platform adding a target=”_blank”_ to all hrefs. I can’t work around this because the blog platform is not flexible enough … could this be fixed somehow?

  11. Oblomov Says:

(BTW I suggest changing the detection code instead of adding me manually because some other friends of mine use the same admittedly lousy blog platform and they are interested in zooomr as well.)

  12. Thomas Hawk Says:

djp — fantastic feeback. keep it coming and we will definitely have a forum for zooomr ideas that we will launch on Friday.

And about the name. Maybe it’s better to think about it this way. Google and Yahoo only have two O’s. We’ve got three. How much cooler is three than two?

  13. Sohil Says:

I have a few feature requests.

    1. Allow us to choose our own nick names like FlickR does, even if our id is something like
    http://beta.zooomr.com/photos/gmail_sohil92
Allow me to have a small nickname like just sohil.
    2. Create a Firefox extension (Please)
    3. Allow us to create albums.
    4. A onetime login procedure. It’s a pain in the a** to request for a TPass and login. It’s awfully convenient but also sometimes a pain in the a**

  14. Sohil Says:

Never mind, I figured out how to change my URL.

  15. Sohil Says:

    Stuff similar to FlickR “badges”.

BTW, I too requested a Pro Account.
    http://blog.zooomr.com/2006/07/07/do-we-love-bloggers-yes-we-do/#comment-2069

However, I changed my URL after that (I edited the code to reflect it).

BTW, How would I know if I’ve been Proed.

  16. Amos Griffin Says:

@Sohil- this may be the only answer I’ll ever be able to give regarding Zooomr, not much of a tech guy, but I know this one.

When you’re on your photo page [beta.zooomr.com/photos/”your user name”] or when you sign in they’ll be a small “Pro” icon immediately after the end of your name. Tells ya you’re a Pro. Or not.

  17. Dana Says:

I second the suggestion of subsets within sets! That would be excellent!
    Thanks!

  18. Russell Limprecht Says:

Here is a small nit. Kevin Burton of Tailrank tells me Zooomr Trackbacks are really Referrals.

I suspect we will see subsets sooonr since that is one of Thomas’ requests. Yea.

I will wait until I see 2.0 before suggesting more features.

    Great Job, Zooomrites.

  19. Allen Says:

    Another request for subsets here!

Most importantly, I’d like to see mass upload tools.

  20. Sohil Says:

Thanks Griffin (so similar to FlickR eh)

  21. Zooomr versie 2 | KennethVerburg.nl - Information Engineer in het Wild Says:
