Why not? [UPDATED]

Tuesday, March 14th, 2006

Well, we’re not moved over yet — but I’ve decided to open the site back up for people to try it. So, try it.

If you want to talk with me, just jump on Meetro and I’ll try to answer all questions as best as possible (I’m in the Meetro HQ). But yeah, Zooomr has had some awesome coverage. Here are some links:

Zooomr on Digg (over 1000 diggs, thanks!)

Zooomr on ZDNET

Zooomr on Slashdot (!!!)

Oh, yeah — Can you guys seriously bookmark Zooomr on del.icio.us? I have this sinking feeling that Yahoo! has blocked us from the popular list. I seriously hope not and feel reallly bad for having the thought. I like Yahoo.

Thanks,

Kristopher Tate

[UPDATE] Well that wasn’t long. We’re completely hosed again — Sorry, folks.

Spiking

Saturday, March 11th, 2006

Hey folks, just wanted to let everyone know that some new hardware is on its way and I’m upgrading lots of stuff to make Zooomr even faster. So, thanks for all of the lovely demand!

Enjoy,

QuickEdit Your Tags!

Saturday, March 11th, 2006

Screencap of the new inline tag add system Just wanted to let people know that you can now add and remove tags easier now inside of each photo page — Awesome blue add button and all!

Also, I wanted to let everyone know that you may see some speed increases due to a new tag system, new framework interface, several optimizations to LightTPD, much much much more caching, and other enhancements to the templating subsystem. In short, I’ve been pretty busy. Let me know if any glitches pop-up ;)

Thanks,

Kristopher Tate

PeopleTags and TagAssist

Monday, March 6th, 2006

PeopleTag inside of TagAssist So, tags are really cool. People are really cool, as well — I added PeopleTags awhile back to try and connect people to photos. But the problem always was that I use regular tag search a lot and sometimes I’m searching for a tag that is a person anyways — that connection didn’t jump over! So, I’ve built-in a new framework called TagAssist. Basically, if TagAssist sees that your query matches a person, it will show photos that represent that person, and even give you a link right to their photo catalogue! Nifty, I know.

So, check it out. Search for Me, Vinnie, Sam, Michael, Paul, or Kağan — we’ll all show-up!

Lastly, I’ve improved the Photo and People menus so that when you are on a people or photo page, the appropriate bar will stay lit. When you use Zooomr, you’ll see what I mean.

Thanks,

Kristopher Tate

16 Locales and Growing

Monday, March 6th, 2006

Just checking in to let everyone know that we’re currently on our 16th locale, Slovak, and rapidly approaching 17 locales with Hungarian just going through some QA stuff.

So, hello our Slovak speaking photographers — Welcome to Zooomr!

Also of note: French, German, Japanese, Portuguese, and Spanish locales were updated along with the addition of Slovak.

SuperPD (and it is super!)

Sunday, March 5th, 2006

SuperPD Logo Not too long ago, I introduced PD (Progressive Digitizr) Technology. What did PD do? Well, it basically checked to see if a photo was taken with a 2MP or higher camera and made sure that we digitized it correctly.

What does Super PD do? Sooo glad you asked. Super PD now makes things waayy more crisp — It’s designed to make photos look as fresh as possible — much like a crisper does for vegetables inside of a refrigerator. :)

But, of course, words don’t do a photo justice, so here’s a 2-UP comparison (Super PD is on the left):

2-UP comparison (Super PD is on the left)

Check it out for yourself on the Recent Photos page.

Anyway, there are a lot of other cool things that have been going on under complete silence. We’ve got an API almost out the door and some other happenings with a certain online printing service :)

Until the next post,

Kristopher Tate
