Zooomr 2 Roll Out

by Kristopher Tate | 30 March 2006 | Announcements | 11 Comments

Yes, it’s all true — There is a Zooomr 2.0 and over the next week-and-a-half, I will be rolling it out for everyone. Zooomr 2 will include new features and will be better hosted. The first new innovation of Zooomr 2 is already here and it’s something I’ve cooked-up in the last two days. What is it and what does it do? Well, I can first tell you that it’s one of a kind.

Introducing “Inspector”

Inspector is a hover-window that allows you to edit, view, and change photo metadata from all photo index pages. It’s as simple as clicking the Inspector Button () inside of each photos’s ProTip™ zone.

Inspector is even transparent and dragable — Key information such as how many people are inside of the photo and included Zooomrtations are all available from Inspector. Be sure to try it out on my photo catalogue. Here’s a screenshot of Inspector in action:

Roll Out Goodies

What should you expect from me in the not-so-distant future? Here’s a list of awesome goodies that I’m working on bringing you:

There are a host of other goodies that are smaller than this list that I think will make your experience at Zooomr a blast — sorry to make everyone wait, but that’s part of the deal.

Enjoy Inspector!

Thanks,

Kristopher Tate

[UPDATE] I’m looking into reports that Inspector kills Firefox 1.0.7 — If you are running anything below Firefox 1.5, I HIGHLY recommend you to upgrade. You can download 1.5 from either Google or Mozilla directly.

*cough* slight typo in your category - ‘announcements’, not ‘annoucments’

    Awe - some! Great work!

One thing though, can I request something? I try to geo tag each of my photos, but it can be sort of tedious. It would be great if the Inspector had a function to geo tag the photo, so I could just pick a location for it. Hope it’s possible, that would be amazing.

bd — Thanks for the correction!

paradox — LightMap2 will provide a host of new features I’m sure you will enjoy. I’m working on providing GeoCoding to Zooomr, but you’ll have to wait and see what time will tell.

Zoomr seems fab and I would like to join it but before I do, I have a question and I hope you can answer it.

What do you mean by 50MB upload but unlimited storage?? How can storage be unlimited when the limit is 50MB?? Can someone explain this to me?

    Kris,
First let me say, beautiful work so far man! I give you huge props for what you’ve accomplished at your age. The sky is the limit!
OK, I read what you said at nerdcore so I am assuming that the Sets/Smartsets coming down the pipe will take the place of the traditional Album concept? I totally love the idea, sounds like you’ve got a pretty badass filtered search system that you are giving us control of. :) However, just want to make sure that once we create them, they will be available to visitors to easily click on a particular “Album” they wish to view?
This may be a dumb Q and you’re already planning on it but I just want to make sure before I commit to your site over the rest (as if I haven’t been convinced already!)
Thank you much and keep up the great work!
    -Dana

P.S. If you need any official bug testers or anything please let me know as I went the “traditional” route studying (and partying) my ass off in college for too long! =)

Inspector dies on ff 1.0.7. FF 1.5 is not packaged for debian yet, afaik.

    Chrono Cr@cker,
In regards to your question, the 50MB upload limit is PER MONTH. So if/when you hit that limit you must wait till next month to upload again. Seems quite fair to me for a FREE account. ;) I haven’t looked into it yet but I’m sure a pro account would remove this limitation.
    Cheers!

Sorry, I’m stuck on 1.07 until some of my favorite extensions are updated and some of the more egregious memory leaks in 1.5.1 are fixed.

I am a very excited Zooomr member and confirm that Mozilla 1.7.12 (Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.12) Gecko/20050923) crashes without any backtrace while opening Inspector. Otherwise, everything else works nice and pleasantly:)

Keep on Zooomr-ing!!! Can’t wait until the beta-testing stage ends:)

P.S. Just found a little inconsistency in the “Photo View” page design — the “Delete” control isn’t bold as the remaining ones (e.g. “All Sizes”) and shivers when getting bold while the mouse pointer hovers above it.
