LightMap is Up

Screenshot of LightMap inside of the Photos menuIf you haven’t noticed by now, there is a new option under the Photos menu called “LightMap”. It’s quite similar to LightBox, only it displays an awesome Google Map with color-coated pins that represent where photos have been taken. Green () pins represent photos that you have tagged. Blue () pins are from people inside your Social Circle. Not surprisingly, red () pins are from people you have not invited into your circle.

There are some tricks involved with LightMap, not to mention some cooler stuff on the Zooomr developer box waiting for me to copy over.

As usual, please comment here if you have any comments, questions, or concerns — Thanks!

(PS: Check-out this awesome blog post about Zooomr. I think it’s one of the most neutral ones yet.)

[…] This only applies to Mac people, but if you’re using Safari and happen to click on the LightMap link under the Photos menu, you’ll notice that Safari crashes. This is not a bug on our part, but on Apple’s Javascript Engine. […]

    I Love It!!!
part of the reason i have always wanted a GPS box is so i can map my photos on my website!! :)

    Brilliant!!!

BTW, when are the subscriptions (pro accounts) gonna be up?? i know you still arn’t quite ready for “prime time” but i’d still much rather give you my hard earned $$ than give it to Flickr!!!

Hi Eikon, thanks for the support.

Once we get on some new infrastructure, you can bet that I’ll have Pro and Premium accounts activated.

    Hi Kris

I’m a very new zooomr user and I have to admit that while the basic concept of the lightmap is great, I have been totally baffled until now about the usage of the red, green and blue dots in the top corner of the map - now I understand that they are filters? This is not explained *anywhere* that I can find. Does the red dot next to ‘Start Geotagging’ have any relevance?

Please understand that I’m not knocking the feature at all, I actually think it’s fantastic, but speaking from personal experience I hope a *lot* more help and documentation can be added to the site as it’s got a very steep learning curve!

Please keep up the great work :)

    Ian
