LightMap and his dog GeoTag

Wednesday, January 25th, 2006

First look at GeoTags Hot on the heels of LightBox comes LightMap and his amazing dog-friend GeoTag on an mission to tag all photos not merely by name but also location — That sounds pretty surreal right? Well, I’m glad to be able to say that I’ve done it. GeoTags are now working.

The Interface to add photos isn’t 100% what I want at the moment, but they are quite usable. More details will come as time passes, just keep a look-out for photos that have a little push-pin. More about LightMap & LightBox to come soon.

Google & Meetro

Tuesday, January 24th, 2006

Wouldn’t it be nice if all websites could use each others’ login systems? I think so — and I’ve tried to do so. Today, I am annoucing that Zooomr has gained login support from Google and Meetro. I’m going to try and add some others in the near future, but it’s nice to know that we can all play fair.

Also, for those of you who could not login via livejournal, the main reason was LJ’s new push to get everyone on a subdomain because of all the cross-site attacks they have been reciving. LiveJournal logins should work as expected now.

Alright, I’ve got something really cool to show everyone soon, too — some photos already show this new feature.

Keep an eye out.

1000 Photos, 1000 Thanks

Friday, January 20th, 2006

Zooomr's 1000th Photo I started Zooomr a little over two months ago with the intention of connecting people together through the art of photography. 1000 photos later, I’m pleased to be reporting that Zooomr is growing in many (great) ways.

Zooomr wouldn’t be anything without its community of testers and localizers — thanks everyone.

Go Brighter with LightBox

Sunday, January 15th, 2006

LightBox It’s hard to get an idea of what a photo is like when you’re going through several thumbnails at a time. Clicking on a photo takes you to the photo’s details page which is not only takes time but also takes you away from what you were trying to search. This was a problem until something called LightBox came along.

LightBox is a special display mode that can be activated by simply clicking on the LightBox emblem in the bottom-left-corner of all photos while searching. You can try it out on Zooomr’s Recent Photos page or on my Photo Catalogue.

I’m still expanding the idea, so continue to use it, and maybe you’ll see some updates.

Let Tags Lead The Way

Saturday, January 14th, 2006

Zooomr TagClouds TagClouds are nothing new, but they are a great way to find new things that you never thought existed. The other day, I found a photo I took at a Japanese Restaurant — Who knows what you may be able to find in your tags. Check mine out here.

Lastly, if you’re logged-in, Zooomr will try to find tags you share with another person and display those tags in Zooomr Green.

(Psst, Zooomr beta 2 hasn’t been launched yet because we’re trying to tackle a problem with storage, so once we get that all out of the way (soon), expect the doors to open!)

“Tag, you’re it!”

Sunday, January 8th, 2006

Screen Capture of TagMatch™ Tags are fun on thier own — but what if I could find other people who are like me based on Tags? No problem, it’s yours: Introducing TagMatch™

TagMatch will give you the top 10 people who are like you, and then the tags that bind you and the other person. It’s really handy when you want to find people who are, well, like yourself :-)

To try it out, simply go to the TagMatch page here

New Stuff

Saturday, January 7th, 2006

I don’t know about you, but I always like to jump through as little hoops as possible to get what I want. That’s why I’ve got some new stuff and some improvements on the old.

The first, is that Zooomrtations can now be loaded inline/inset within most display elements. I couldn’t get it into the recent photos page for a good reason: the player is simply too big. :-)

Zooomr People Search widget

Anyways, if you haven’t already noted, we’ve got this new feature called “People”. Zooomr aims to be social, so I’ve been creating ways to connect photos with people, which means that eventually everyone will be able to connect with each other without having to sort through photos. What you’re seeing on the left is the new people input method: simply enter their display name or url name into the box, and it’ll find them lickity split — as a bonus, it puts the people in your social circle toward the top.

Google Homepage widget for Zooomr

Lastly as a bonus of its own, I have made a Google Widget for Google’s new Homepage, Here’s how to add it:

Just click the “Add Content” link in the upper-left corner, type in the URL http://beta.zooomr.com/google_ig.xml in the “Create a Section” form, and then press “Go”.

So, check those out — I’m still working on this guy, expect the next group of beta testers to be in soon.

(P.S. For you people in the United Kingdom, we’ve got a dialect of English for you — Just select “English (UK)” from the footer element — It’s pretty wicked ;) )
